| Spring is finally here – and while the rest of the region is waking up from a long winter’s nap, GLAD WORKS continues to be hard at work, tackling new adventures and challenges that have kept us thriving through the snowy weather. To see how we managed to beat the cold, read on…

On February 2, 2006, GLAD WORKS proudly accepted the Rhode Island Small Business Award at the 16th Annual Encore Awards, organized by the Arts & Business Council of Rhode Island. Each year, the A&BC/RI honors members of the community, including performers, creators, managers, producers, supporters and sponsors, who have made exceptional contributions to the improvement of the artistic and cultural life in Rhode Island.
GLAD WORKS was chosen to receive the Award, which recognizes a small business with less than 100 employees for outstanding contributions and in-kind services to Rhode Island’s arts and cultural community. The agency has devoted much time and energy, working closely with the A&BC/RI, Festival Ballet Providence, Veterans Memorial Auditorium, Author Chris Van Allsburg, Waterfire Providence, The Rhode Island Philharmonic, The Pawtucket Arts Exchange, the Rhode Island International Film Festival, and the All Children’s Theater. GLAD WORKS has always been happy to help the arts community, and we look forward to our many continued relationships in the years to come.
GLAD WORKS is happy to welcome Gulf Oil Limited Partnership to our extensive list of clients! Since its establishment in 1901 Gulf has been a leader in service and quality in the Northeast, so when they wanted a new integrated promotional campaign to create superior brand awareness, they chose GLAD WORKS. Thrilled with the opportunity, GLAD WORKS was quick to drive the new campaign with the creation of a new corporate tagline, “Life… One mile at a time.”
Currently, through marketing strategy, copywriting, design and applications development, the team has been busy creating a new corporate identity set, promotional ads, a new interactive website and a capabilities brochure. In addition, GLAD WORKS is currently up at bat for Gulf’s newest promotion, incorporating their sponsorship of the Boston Red Sox. Gulf customers can be entered into a sweepstakes to win 2 Green Monster seats at Fenway Park just by filling up at Gulf stations. GLAD WORKS is utilizing their custom illustration capabilities to design the posters, signage, sticker pumps and promotional website for the sweepstakes. The design, inspired by the writing on the wall at Fenway, features the tagline; “Get to the Green Monster seats one mile at a time.” GLAD WORKS is proud to be fueling the marketing efforts of the company that has been fueling the dreams of American motorists for more than a hundred years!
Each year, the Hasbro Children’s Hospital of Rhode Island holds a toy-themed gala to raise money for an important cause that affects the hospital’s young patients. On April 1, 2006, Hasbro hosted this year’s event for pediatric diabetes, entitled “Twister Gala 2006,” inspired by the colorful Hasbro children’s game. This year, GLAD WORKS jumped in with Barrington Printing as a collaborative effort to create event collateral for the benefit, including response cards, invitations, sponsorship folders, letterhead, event program book, and auction card and book. Choosing to incorporate a youthful feel, GLAD WORKS designed circular invitations that resembled the colorful circles from the game’s recognizable mat. GLAD WORKS was honored to design for, and attend, the annual event, which has raised nearly $4 million for children’s needs since the first gala in 1994.
GLAD WORKS is proud to announce the addition of a new 1,000 sq.ft. photo studio to the Pawtucket, RI office! After more than a decade of providing full-service advertising to clients, GLAD WORKS can now expand our in-house photography capabilities to include expansive product shoots, portraits, and studio-based fashion shots. The studio expansion couldn’t have come at a better time. Chex Finer Foods, a specialty food distributor out of Attleboro, MA, immediately put the new space to great use with the production of its 100+ page food catalog. Our ability to produce all of the photography in-house with full coordination and project management of the catalog design was critical for such a large undertaking. Outside of the studio, the team is also keeping busy with on-location shoots – most recently conducting a two-day photo shoot for renowned Boston IVF and the Domar Center for Complementary Healthcare in Waltham, MA. So whether our clients need the convenience of an on-location crew, or the comfort of a pre-set photo studio, GLAD WORKS is ready and excited to explore all of the photographic possibilities!
Recently, the Rhode Island Blood Center (RIBC) approached GLAD WORKS with a challenge: How could they cohesively reach out to multiple generations and motivate them to donate? The GLAD WORKS award winning creative team answered the call with a generational, four piece direct mail campaign that would appeal to each of the generations individually, while encompassing a unified campaign for the RIBC. “Life Changes. Change Lives.” explores the idea that while each of the generations has experienced life-changing events, there are also changes that each person has the power to make, such as changing someone’s life by donating blood.
Further inspired by this theme, the agency is currently hard at work designing the RIBC’s annual report under the complimentary theme, “Faces of Change”. And the creativity didn’t stop there. This spring, various highways throughout the state saw the unveiling of the newest RIBC billboards. Conceived and designed by GLAD WORKS, the billboards pose the question, “What have you saved lately?” directly above the images of a clock, a piggy bank and a young child.
The simple, but powerful design and message has certainly been driving up donation awareness! GLAD WORKS is thrilled to work with the RIBC, and to have an opportunity to take part in promoting such an important cause.
As Rhode Island’s population has continued to expand and change, Domestic Bank, located in Cranston, RI, realized it had a new group of customers to aid: the growing Latino population. While many banks have been slow to respond, Domestic Bank is stepping forward to help Latino businesses in need, and GLAD WORKS was happy to lend a hand. Taking on the campaign's public relations, GLAD WORKS assisted Domestic Bank in effectively promoting new bilingual seminars tailored to helping members of the Latino community learn more about American financial processes. The agency further reinforced the message through a colorful and dynamic bilingual print campaign featuring print ads, brochures and posters. Domestic Bank understands the importance of helping the Latino population become financially educated so they may thrive in both their personal and business affairs, and GLAD WORKS is thrilled to help in that effort.
Everyone enjoys to be pampered once in a while, and with the help of GLAD WORKS, three local businesses are making it easier for their customers to indulge. Garrison Confections, a Providence based gourmet chocolatier, Taglia, an upscale boutique in Barrington, and Down Under Jewelry, a sophisticated Newport jewelry shop all received makeovers on their websites courtesy of the GLAD WORKS team. Each site was built to promote convenient online shopping, delivering lavish products to their customers without requiring a trip to the store. Customers can now satisfy their appetites for chocolates, fashion and unique jewelry items easily with just a few clicks of the mouse. GLAD WORKS was happy to introduce these wonderful local shops to vast new audiences on the web – fully encouraging the public to give in to their everyday indulgences.
Ballet, the classic dance form that has graced the world for centuries, is alive and flourishing in Rhode Island with stellar, break-through performances by Festival Ballet Providence. The 2006 winter season brought a new ballet to Providence, which explored the style of world famous choreographer, Balanchine. Inspired by his specific technique, GLAD WORKS chose to develop a commercial that would play on the choreographer’s visions of well executed, almost chaotic dance. This new concept for the Ballet’s commercials shifts from past television spots the agency had developed.
| The new concept features color and black and white images, and jumps from rehearsals, both in and out of costume, and a reoccurring vision of a ballerina’s feet en Pointe. Festival Ballet’s next performance is set to be Don Quixote, and GLAD WORKS has continued to explore this technique in the currently running commercials – reflecting the dance technique and story of the ballet. |
