Why do they call them "dog days"? Is it because you're dog tired, it's a dog-eat-dog world or is it just all the hot dogs? In any case, we love the summer months here at GLAD WORKS. Here are some of the latest happenings at the studio and beyond. (As you can tell, things are really heating up.)

In their annual list of “40 Under Forty,” Providence Business News seeks to honor young, philanthropic professionals under the age of forty who have achieved success in their careers and are actively involved in their communities. Gina DiSpirito, founder and creative director of GLAD WORKS received the award for the second time in three years (having been previously honored in the award’s premier issue) for her outstanding presence in the business world and in her community. |
| Fascinated by the intersection of arts and commerce, Gina has dedicated her time and her team to numerous pro-bono efforts; the redesign of WaterFire’s website was one such work. Congratulations Gina on your dedication to exploring the possibilities! |

GLAD WORKS recently won the Videographer Award of Excellence in the category of TV Spots/ Healthcare (Non-Hospital) for our commercial “Playground.” Neighborhood Health Plan of Rhode Island wanted to get the word out about their services, so GLAD WORKS selected a humorous approach to get the audience’s attention. By using local talent, carefully scouting locations, and practicing innovative filming techniques, we were able to keep quality up, costs down, and the client happy—which is always our ultimate goal! “It's our obligation to let people who are uninsured know about the low or no cost health insurance options that are available to them through RIte Care,” explained Brenda Seagrave-Whittle, Neighborhood's Director of Marketing and External Affairs. “It's also our obligation to be good stewards of state dollars so we needed high quality commercials at a very reasonable price. GLAD WORKS helped us achieve both goals.” Congratulations to videographer Wes Rollend and the rest of the GLAD WORKS team!
Speaking of Wes, his work was recently displayed at the Musee de l'Elysee's exhibit "We are all photographers now!” in Lausanne, Switzerland! The first major museum project to undertake a comprehensive overview of the digital revolution as it impacts on everyone, the exhibit included Wes’s untitled work. Great job, Wes!

GLAD WORKS also recently received an Award of Distinction from The Communicator Awards for our “Savings” billboard for the Rhode Island Blood Bank. It’s another great example of helping non-profit clients get their message across to a wider audience.
The Brown University Entrepreneurship Program was created to immerse students in an environment that fosters entrepreneurial thinking, enables and encourages students to create innovative entrepreneurial ventures and establishes a community. At a recent event, GLAD WORKS founder and creative director Gina DiSpirito was invited to address the aspiring entrepreneurs at the venerable University. As a successful business owner and community activist, Gina was the obvious choice to address the students, and the Providence College grad enjoyed the added honor of being one of the few panelists who wasn’t a Brown alum. “The students were really interested in the practical advice I had to offer—the nuts and bolts of getting a business started and keeping it going,” said Gina. Since starting as a small design house 12 years ago, GLAD WORKS has expanded to a full-service advertising agency, thanks to Gina’s entrepreneurial spirit and practical know-how.
